4th Annual Direct Energy Walk, Roll & Run
OTTAWA SENATORS FOUNDATION 4TH ANNUAL DIRECT ENERGY WALK, ROLL & RUN FOR ROGER’S HOUSE
-- Brookstreet Resort, September 10, 2006 --
Thursday, July 13, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators Foundation 4th Annual Direct Energy Walk, Roll & Run for Roger’s House has been set for Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at Brookstreet Resort in Kanata.

Roger's House, the charity of choice of the Ottawa Senators Foundation, became Ontario’s first pediatric respite and palliative care home when it opened its doors officially on May 15, 2006. One day later, François Dumont and Elizabeth Lorenzin, along with their 21-month-old son, Luca, moved into Roger's House to become the first family to access the palliative care program.

Luca and his family spent eight days together at Roger’s House and his parents, Elizabeth and François, have now been named honorary co-chairs for this year’s event.

Elizabeth and François, the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club and the Senators foundation invite one and all to come out and participate in the Sept. 10 event. Active participation and fundraising will help ensure Roger’s House thrives, so families like Luca’s have access to a home-like environment dedicated to enhancing the comfort and quality of life in a time of need.

The schedule of activities for the Direct Energy Walk, Roll & Run for Roger’s House is as follows:

  • 9 a.m. Welcoming remarks and our Spartacat stretch
  • 9:30 a.m. BOB-FM 10K walk, roll and run
  • 9:45 a.m. Hangar 13 Art & Design 5K event
  • 10 a.m. Brookstreet Resort 2K walk
  • 10:30 a.m. Great-West Life Family Fun Zone
  • Noon. Event achievement remarks and closing ceremony

Event registration and pledging is available online at the Ottawa Senators Foundation website at: www.sensfoundation.com. Forms can also be downloaded to register and collect pledges off-line.

CASTAWAY CREW
New to this year’s Direct Energy Walk, Roll and Run for Roger’s House is a fundraising initiative for individuals raising $5,000 or more. The first 50 qualified fundraisers will be invited to join our Castaway Crew. On Aug. 26 this group of people will find “Lost in Paradise” — an exclusive party at an undisclosed waterfront location. Guests will be whisked away by limousine from the Brookstreet Resort to attend the social event of the summer alongside Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson and teammates Mike Fisher and Chris Neil; head coach Bryan Murray, general manager John Muckler and several other VIPs and Senators players. Randy Bachman, formerly of The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive, will make a special appearance to perform an unplugged concert while Scotiabank Place executive chef Keith Jones prepares a one-of-a-kind menu that will soon not be forgotten.

TEAM SCOTIA
Another initiative for the Sept. 10 event is the introduction of TEAM Scotia. Emily Farrell and Joe Jefferies, executives of Scotiabank and ScotiaMcLeod, will join honorary co-chairs François Dumont and Elizabeth Lorenzin as they walk in celebration and in loving memory of their son, Luca. Together they will be TEAM Scotia as Scotiabank will match the first $25,000 received in their support. Individuals can pledge their support to TEAM Scotia online at www.sensfoundation.com.

OTTAWA CITIZEN CORPORATE CHALLENGE
The Ottawa Citizen launched a corporate challenge for teams of up to 10 people participating in the event of their choice (2K, 5K or 10K). The corporate team to raise the most money in pledges will receive access to the Roger’s House suite (20 people) for a regular-season Ottawa Senators hockey game at Scotiabank Place, and one full-colour, full-page corporate advertisement in the Ottawa Citizen.

GREAT-WEST LIFE FAMILY FUN ZONE
An addition to this year’s Direct Energy Walk, Roll & Run for Roger’s House will be the newly added Great-West Life Family Fun Zone. Located in the parking lot of its new office location adjacent to the race site, Great-West Life Insurance and the Ottawa Senators Foundation will provide an array of activities for participants and families, including:
