OTTAWA – The Sens Foundation is pleased once again to have been chosen as a beneficiary of the eighth annual 24h of Tremblant – a ski-a-thon fundraiser for the benefit of sick and underprivileged children taking place at the Mont-Tremblant Resort in Quebec from Dec. 12 to 14. In just two years, the event has directed nearly $400,000 to the Sens Foundation, which has used the funds to continue its work with charities in this community.
This year, 24h of Tremblant is looking for 225 teams to participate in skiing and snowboarding, and to help raise $1 million for a second straight year. The teams will participate in a 24-hour relay race on the slopes of Mont-Tremblant in which team members take turns accumulating kilometres with the goal of raising money through sponsorships and donations. The event also welcomes spectators as it hosts live outdoor shows, entertainment and contests in the pedestrian village.
Team Phillips will be back this year. Led by Ottawa Senators defenceman Chris Phillips and his wife, Erin, this team of friends hopes to surpass its $15,000 fundraising achievement of last year.
“Erin and I are proud to be ambassadors to the 24h of Tremblant,” said Chris Phillips. “Knowing we can get our families and friends involved in such a fun, meaningful way to support thousands of children in our community and beyond is very rewarding.”
The Sens Foundation has also registered a team, captained by Olympic skier Laurie Graham and A-Morning personality Lianne Laing. Sean Lesley, a 15-year-old leukemia patient at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), joins the team with his family and will represent all the “Young SENSations” from designated 24h of Tremblant recipient charities. The balance of the team is made up of dedicated Ottawa Senators staff and family members.
“We are very proud to be part of this exceptional fund raising event for children. We appreciate the quality of organization of the 24h of Tremblant and our host Mont-Tremblant Resort,” said Danielle Robinson, president of the Sens Foundation. “We are looking forward to being a part of this great adventure for years to come and hope the people of Ottawa will get involved and help us reach our objective of raising $1 million again.”
In addition to the Sens Foundation, who will provide funds to organizations like CHEO, Candlelighters and Roger’s House, the organizing committee has designated funds to the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau in Montreal and the Tremblant Foundation.
