Achievement:	$75,000 raised in 2007 for Roger’s House

The inaugural NHL Scotiabank Dinner Behind the Bench was a resounding success, raising $75,000 for Roger’s House.

The event, presented by The Ottawa Citizen, was highlighted by the attendance of over 60 NHL Executives, General Managers, Coaches, and Assistant Coaches who graciously hosted tables purchased by our corporate supporters.  VIP guests included NHL coaches Craig Hartsburg, Mike Babcock, Ted Nolan, and Ken Hitchcock, to name just a few.

NHL coach Marc Crawford presented the keynote address and spoke to the illustrious career and hockey accomplishments of former Ottawa Senators assistant coach Roger Neilson.  This event marked the 5-year anniversary of Neilson’s passing due to two forms of cancer. Guests were also treated to an address from NHL Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman, who spoke to his personal relationship with Roger Neilson and the many ways that Roger contributed to youth in our communities. 

Initiated by the NHL Coaches’ Association, “Dinner Behind the Bench” has been earmarked for inclusion at future NHL Draft weeks in NHL city’s across North America. 

“The NHL Coaches’ Association, through their members, gives back greatly to the NHL communities they live in.  The selection of Roger’s House as the charitable beneficiary of this inaugural event is very fitting, adding to Roger Neilson’s legacy.”

Through the request of the NHL Coaches’ Association, the Sens Foundation received a jersey, either team signed, or signed by one of their biggest players, from every NHL team.  The support of our radio media partner, The Team 1200 Sports Radio, allowed us to offer hockey fans a unique opportunity, the NHL Classic Collection!  For the purchase of one $50 ticket, one lucky winner could win the entire collection of 30 NHL jerseys.   An added early bird prize of a team signed 2007-08 Ottawa Senators jersey was available for those who purchased their ticket before June 6.
