In February 2007 a record $715,370 was raised at the Sens Foundation Telethon for Roger’s House. The record amount is a combination of donations received during the telethon by phone, online and in-game contributions as well as by cheques presented through fundraising that occurred with organizations over the last calendar year.
Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, who was watching the telethon broadcast, called in during the second intermission and made an unanticipated offer to match all telephone donations from that point until the end of the game. Mr. Melnyk ended up matching more than $33,000 of pledges to push the telethon's overall total past the $700,000 mark.
Looking ahead, our 2008 Telethon for Roger’s House, presented by The OutCare Foundation, has been set for 6:30 p.m. on February 25. It will be broadcast live from Scotiabank Place on Rogers Sportsnet as the Senators take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. Two exclusive toll-free phone numbers 1-877-78-ROGER (76437) and #SENS (7367) on any Bell Mobility cellular telephone will be active for the event.
Roger’s House, the charity of choice of the Sens Foundation, provides a comprehensive paediatric respite and palliative care program with elements of outreach, residential hospice, pain and symptom management, grief & bereavement counselling and research. Since opening its doors in May 2006, Roger’s House has had more than 250 admissions. The future children of Roger’s House and their families need your generous support.
